Obituary for Richard R. McLeary

Richard R. "Coach" McLeary, 85, of Ligonier, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 1, 1933 in Johnstown, a son of the late Cecil and June Strayer McLeary.

Prior to his retirement in 1993 he had been employed as an educator in the Ligonier Valley School District for 37 years. He also had owned the former Mac's Market in Latrobe for over seventeen years. He was a member of the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ligonier Lodge #331 F&AM, Westmoreland Tall Cedars, and the Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory. Richard had coached boys and girls basketball, Jr. High football, girls softball, baseball, and had been an assistant coach for Varsity Football, all in the Ligonier Valley.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Jane Fritz McLeary in 2012.

Richard is survived by two sons, Richard W. McLeary and David W. (Andrea) McLeary, all of Ligonier, two grandchildren, Noel (Glenn) Campagna of Nashville and Devin McLeary of Los Angeles, and a brother, Barry (Donna) McLeary of Johnstown.

Friends will be received 6-8PM Thursday, and 2-4 and 6-8PM Friday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel, Inc., 144 East Main Street, Ligonier, where Richard's life will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00AM with the Rev. Dr. J. Paul McCracken officiating.

Interment will follow in the Richland Cemetery, Johnstown.

Ligonier Lodge #331 F&AM will hold services in the funeral home Friday at 7:30PM.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Richard's in-home caregivers and the nursing staff at the Bethlen Home for the compassionate care received by their Father.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in Richard's memory to St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church or to your local chapter of the Alzheimer's Assoc.
