Obituary for Joan C. Tressler

Joan C. Tressler, 75, of Ligonier, died Friday, November 16, 2018 in the Bethlen Home.

She was born November 26, 1942 in Catawissa, PA a daughter of the late William and Violet Seikauskas Casper.

Joan started her career as a teacher of home economics. After obtaining her Master's Degree she worked for several hospitals as a dietician. She also worked in the public school sector in establishing and maintaining food service programs. She worked on the State level in establishing child nutrition standards and ultimately retired from the United States Dept of Agriculture in 2009, Child Nutrition Division as a Program Analyst and Supervisory Program Analyst. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Audubon Society, and the Lake Gaston Ladies Club. Joan loved all animals, particularly birds, and belonged to several animal and wildlife conservatory associations.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, JohnT. Tressler in 1992, a granddaughter, Autumn Garrison, nd three siblings, Virginia and Violet Shinkunas, and William Casper.

Joan is survived by two daughters, Lynne T. (Joe) Murphy of Venice, FL and Anne (Glenn) Garrison of Ligonier, and the love of her life, her grandson, Laken Garrison.

Friends will be received Monday from 6-8:00PM at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel, Inc., 144 East Main Street, Ligonier. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. John Foriska, as Celebrant.

Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, VA.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in Joan's memory to the Eastern Bluebird Rescue Group, 126 Newell Farms Road, Warrington, NC 27589.
