Obituary for Dominick P. "Babe" LaMantia, Jr

Dominick P. "Babe" LaMantia, Jr., 88, of Bolivar, died Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Andrew's Village.

He was born October 19, 1930 in Bolivar, a son of the late Dominick P. LaMantia, Sr. and Rose Gatto LaMantia.

Babe owned and operated LaMantia's Store and LaMantia Beer Distributor in Bolivar. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Seward, a 50 year member of the Bolivar American Legion, and a past member and Asst. Chief of the Bolivar Vol. Fire Co.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Joseph, and Anthony LaMantia, and his longtime companion and dear friend, Martha Barletta.

He is survived by three sisters: Marie (John) Klein of Shaker Heights, OH, Ida Grossman of Northfield, OH, and Helen (Thomas) Fetsko of Johnstown, a brother, Vincent (Delores) LaMantia of Ebensburg and many loving and adoring nieces and nephews.

Babe's family and friends will gather together Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel, Inc., 144 East Main Street, Ligonier. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, Seward, with Rev. Robert Washko as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

Military honors will be presented in the funeral chapel Tuesday at 7:00PM.

It was Babe's wish that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Bolivar American Legion or Holy Family Catholic Church.
